Privacy policy
Will It Local? is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page is a complete, plain-language list of what we collect, why, and how to get it deleted.
TL;DR
- The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing about your scenario reaches our servers unless you share a link, watch a verdict, or buy a Build Plan.
- No analytics, no ad trackers, no fingerprinting — no cookies beyond the one that keeps you signed in if you make an account.
- Card payments happen on Stripe's own checkout page. We never see or store your card number.
- Every recurring email has a one-click unsubscribe. Ask us to delete anything else and we will.
What we collect, and when
Most of this site needs nothing from you. The calculator's math runs client-side in your browser; your hardware plans, workload, and electricity rate never leave your machine unless one of the actions below sends them to us.
- Running the calculator. Nothing is sent anywhere. It's arithmetic happening on your screen.
- Sharing a scenario link (
/s/:code). We store the scenario's numbers (build cost, watts, token volumes, electricity rate) so the short link resolves, plus a one-way, daily-rotating hash of your IP address used only to rate-limit link creation — a truncated SHA-256 of your IP, the date, and a fixed salt, which can't be reversed back to an address. No name, no email, no account tied to it. - Submitting a community benchmark. The hardware, model, quantization, tokens/sec, wall watts, and any notes you enter, plus the same rotating IP hash for abuse prevention. No account needed, nothing else collected.
- Buying a Build Plan ($15, one time). Checkout happens entirely on Stripe's own hosted page — your card number, expiry, and CVC are typed into Stripe, not into willitlocal.com, and never touch our servers. Once Stripe confirms payment, we receive your email address and the Stripe checkout session ID, and store those with the scenario the plan was built from and a bearer token that's your link back to the plan.
- Creating an account (optional). An account exists only so you can find your past Build Plan orders later; guest checkout works without one. We store the name you give us (optional), your email, and a password hash — never your actual password. If you sign in with Google or Apple (once that's turned on), we receive the basic profile info that provider hands us, typically your name and email. Signing in also stores your session's IP address and browser user-agent, standard practice for keeping accounts secure — separate from the rotating hash used elsewhere on the site.
- Watching a verdict ("Verdict Watch"). Your email and the scenario you asked to watch, kept only after you confirm via the emailed link (double opt-in). We re-check the verdict daily and email you only if it actually changes. One click unsubscribes and deletes the row outright. An unconfirmed watch request is deleted automatically after 7 days if you never confirm it.
- Subscribing to the price-drop digest. Same shape as Verdict Watch: your email, double opt-in, one-click unsubscribe, unconfirmed requests deleted after 7 days.
Payments
Stripe processes every payment. We use Stripe Checkout, so the payment form itself is hosted by Stripe, not us — we never receive, see, or store your full card number. What we get back from Stripe after a successful charge is your email address and a checkout session ID, which is how your receipt and Build Plan link reach you. Refunds and disputes are also handled through Stripe; see our Terms for our refund stance.
Cookies
If you create an account, a session cookie keeps you signed in — that's the extent of it from us. No advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, no cross-site tracking pixels. Our host, Cloudflare, may set a small number of its own cookies needed to keep the site secure and fast (for example, telling a real visitor apart from a bot on the sign-in forms); those are operational, not advertising.
Who else sees this data
We don't sell data, and we don't run ads. A short list of vendors process data on our behalf, strictly to run the service:
- Stripe — payment processing for the Build Plan.
- Cloudflare — hosting, our database, transactional email delivery, and bot protection (Turnstile) on the sign-in forms.
- Google / Apple — only if and when you choose to sign in with one of them; we receive the basic profile info that sign-in hands back.
Product links on this site (to Amazon, Newegg, B&H Photo, OpenRouter, RunPod, Vast.ai, Lambda, and similar) take you to third-party sites with their own privacy policies once you click them — we don't hand them any data ourselves. Some of those are affiliate links; see our honesty policy for the full disclosure.
Your rights and choices
- Every Verdict Watch and price-drop digest email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that deletes the underlying row immediately.
- Want a shared scenario link taken down, your account deleted, or a copy of everything we hold under your email address? Email us (below) and we'll act on it. Not every one of these has a self-serve button yet — asking us gets you the same result.
- You're never required to create an account, share a link, or hand over an email to use the calculator, the full break-even index, or the Rig Finder.
Children's privacy
Will It Local? isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes, and update the date at the top when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you've accepted the update.
